I recently spent a delightful New Year at the Courtyard By Marriott Merced, a much-needed escape after two hectic weeks exploring California. Nestled conveniently off Highway 99, it served as the perfect pitstop before heading to Yosemite. The newly renovated lobby and Bistro were visually appealing, and the morning began with a reasonably priced, healthy breakfast that certainly helped me fuel up for the day ahead. What stood out, though, wasn’t just the breakfast but the warmth of the staff. Each interaction felt genuine and caring, especially when I found myself needing assistance with a dead car battery upon checkout. They rechecked me into my room without hesitation, a little kindness that was the cherry on top of a reflective and often busy trip. While the fitness center and pool were rather popular with the younger crowd, I appreciated the peaceful ambiance of my cozy room, thoughtfully equipped with a couch for relaxation - a comforting touch. Despite the minor challenge of navigating their TV system, the comforts and hospitality made me feel at ease.
